Eye & Vision Exams

Proper healthcare is more important than ever, and this includes proper eye care too. That's why scheduling comprehensive eye exams from an optometrist at Saline Optometry / Chelsea Eyeglass Co. is so crucial. We recommend that you visit our Saline or Chelsea eye care offices at least once a year to ensure your vision remains at its best. Different eye health issues that are affected by your general health, like hypertension and diabetes, can be diagnosed quickly before little to no symptoms are present.

What Happens During an Eye Exam?

An eye exam at Saline Optometry focuses on evaluating each patient’s vision, eye function, and eye health. A vision acuity test is the most important part of a comprehensive eye exam performed by our optometrist. The first step is for us to get an idea of your vision by using an eye and reading chart.

After this vision check, we will evaluate how well your eyes see and how they function. These eye function tests cover depth perception, color vision, light responsiveness, eye muscle capabilities, and peripheral vision. We also can detect whether your eyes are working well together and if you have a lazy or crossed eye.

Your eye health is important. We use tonometry tests with visual exams to look at the inner structure of your eyes. This is achieved by dilating your eyes. This helps to measure the eye pressure and blood flow in each eye. It allows our doctor of optometry in Saline or Chelsea, MI, to diagnose eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy or glaucoma.

What are Corrective Lenses?

After your vision eye exam is done, our eye doctor can make recommendations like corrective lenses, whether prescription glasses or contact lenses. If you’re interested in contacts, we will perform a contact lens exam to help determine whether standard soft contact lenses can be used or if we need to prescribe you hard-to-fit contacts instead. These are typically used for astigmatism. When you’re looking for permanent vision, we can also determine if you’re a candidate for LASIK eye surgery.
